For centuries, man has been trying to understand the eighth wonder of the world: the vagina. We are now closer than ever, thanks to MRI scanning and some (sexually frustrated) scientists.
In this study, MRI brain scans monitored the female sensory cortex, which is the part of the brain that is linked to physical feeling, as women had their sexual areas stimulated. As it turns out, the women — and the creators of the popular Rabbit vibrator — who’ve been telling us that vaginal and clitoral stimulation feel quite different, have been right all along.
The study showed that stimulating the clitoris and stimulating the vagina light up different parts of the cortex, which means that they are in fact very different sensations. Interestingly enough, it was determined that arousing the female nipple activates the same part of the brain as genital stimulation.
